WEF Week 2 Newsletter

- Monday, January 23rd, 2023 -

We started off the week with some flatwork in our group lessons, and introduced some cavaletti exercises to the new mounts in preparation for some of the weekend’s big equitation classes during Week 2 of the Winter Equestrian Festival.

Early Friday morning, our team headed to the show grounds to tackle a variation of equitation courses. In the Washington, many of our students took on the three-phase format with great success. In the WIHS Jumper phase, Jordan Gibbs and Cent 15 took home blue with a first place finish, while Sterling Malnik came in third aboard Automatic. In the WIHS Hunter phase, Reese Merna and Chopard Z placed first in section A with an impressive score of 89! Dylan Bazaar and Cabo Frio DV Z finished not far behind in second, with a score of 88.5. Sterling Malnik and Automatic once again rounded out the top three, placing third in section B with a score of 87.

In the WIHS Overall, Reese Merna and Sterling Malnik tied for first, with Reese qualifying for the equitation championship. Jordan Gibbs was awarded second place overall, while Rylynn Conway took home fourth and Emma Blumenkrantz took home fifth. Over in the Platinum Performance / USEF Show Jumping Talent Search 2*, Joe Craver and Franco finished in third place.

On Saturday, Isabella David and Unik 6 won their equitation debut, taking home first place from the NHS Adult Medal. The pair then took second place from the Bruno Delgrange Palm Beach Adult Medal. In the Low Junior Jumper Power & Speed round, Eve Westfall and Cisca VH Lindenhof Z earned fifth place. In the Medium Pony Hunters, Carson Phipps and NR Golden Graham took second place and fourth place from the over fences rounds. Sara Aberle and La Rubia came in fourth during the Children’s Jumpers 15-17 Power and Speed.

Sunday saw Rylynn Conway and Escada take third place from the Low Junior Jumper Classic, while Isabella David continued her ribbon streak, this time aboard Amadeus, who came in third in the Adult Amateur Hunters 18-35 Over Fences. David went on to conquer the Adult Amateur Equitation aboard Unik 6, where the pair took first place in the flat and first over fences, and fifth in the second over fences round, earning them the title of reserve champion.
